The numbers that actually moved

David came to Goodjuju from another SEO firm, so this isn't a "no marketing" story. It's a comparison between SEO that produces cute posts and SEO that produces rankings. All figures are his, on camera.

The transformation

A software veteran who could tell real SEO from cute posts

The challenge

David Bennett built PMI Equitas in Bothell, Washington from the ground up. No inherited portfolio, no buildings of his own, just 31 years of internet software experience and a decision to do property management well. The problem was that nobody could find him. His Google ranking sat around 28th to 30th, page three or four of the results. In his words: "I was never seen."

He was already paying an SEO firm. What he got were cute posts with cute pictures. The one that broke him: a photo of a Scotty dog that pulled ninety responses, every single one of them some version of "what a cute dog," and zero leads. When he raised the ranking problem, their answer was "give it time." He also didn't have enough reviews for owners who did find him to see his story.

The solution

When Landon and Jivko reached out, they did something the prior firm never had: they explained the methodology, how SEO actually works, to a man who has been building internet software since, as he puts it, the question was whether this internet thing would last. He's a hard audience for hand-waving. The explanation held up, and he switched.

The work itself is the part David describes best: articles written to be worth reading, backlinks that connect those articles to other sites so Google sees the connections, and a review program to give his reputation the depth it lacked. Content, links, and ratings working together instead of as disconnected activities. On top of that, a monthly video walking through the report and the ranking changes, and same-day answers to every question.

The results

The listings started moving in four to five months. After about a year and a half, PMI Equitas ranks fifth or sixth in a highly competitive market, and third or fourth in some weeks. Owners now call him directly because, as he puts it, "he's highly ranked, let's go call him." He finally gets the chance to make the sale.

The business followed the visibility. David is careful with attribution, and he says he can't pin a specific door count on any single thing Goodjuju did. What he will say: his doors have more than doubled, tripled since starting, "and that's because I'm visible. They've made me visible."

The expert's verdict: "I've been in the business of software development for thirty-one years. They do the best that I know of, of any company that I've worked with, in the internet SEO space." That's not a compliment from a novice. That's a peer review.

The full review

David Bennett, in full

My name is David Bennett, and I decided to go with Goodjuju for my firm, PMI Equitas, because I was frustrated with the SEO activities of my prior SEO firm. With that prior firm, I'd get cute sound bites with cute pictures that generate zero leads. When I got ninety responses to something they did that was basically a picture of a cute Scotty dog, and all the responses were "what a cute dog," that doesn't really work.

Prior to doing property management, I was a director for an internet-based shipping company. I've been developing software for the internet since the question was, will this internet thing actually last? At the time I was contacted by Landon and Jivko, my Google ranking was averaging around twenty-eighth to thirtieth. Basically page three or four in the search listings. So far down the results that I was never seen. When Landon, the owner of Goodjuju, and Jivko, their vice president of operations, approached me, they explained their methodology and how SEO actually works.

It took about four or five months to see a significant shift in the search listings. It began to move steadily higher, and after about a year and a half, I now place fifth or sixth in a highly competitive market, and up to third or fourth in some weeks. They did this through a thorough knowledge of how SEO actually works, with a staff that actually knows what they're doing to bring you good ranks.

What Goodjuju has brought to the table is, one, they generate good articles. And when they generate those articles, they understand how to link those articles to other people. It isn't just "here's an article on your website." It's got a backlink to somebody else, so when Google looks at your listing, they say, well, you're connected. Your ratings, which they work on very diligently, and your articles and your backlinks all work together to give you a good rating, which moves you up and gets you seen. They understand how to put these things together.

My prior experience with the SEO firm I used before was one of, "hey, I'm here, will somebody talk to me?" With Goodjuju, I get a monthly communication. I get a regular video. I get a report every month, and in the video they give me a thorough description of the report: the change in rankings, what activities they take. If I have a question on an article they're writing, I'll send an email off and I'll get a response back that same day. I never have to wait on communications. Landon is the CEO and president of the company, and he will jump into a conversation I'm having with Jivko or with a writer, because he wants to be there and available. I've been in the business of software development for thirty-one years. They do the best that I know of, of any company that I've worked with, in the internet SEO space.

What difference has Goodjuju made for my business? I'm a small firm. I didn't start with a portfolio. I didn't come from another property management firm. I came out of the software world and tried to build something from the ground up. But I wasn't being seen. Can I give a particular door count that belongs to something Goodjuju did? No, I really can't. But I can say that the difference of how many doors I have now versus when I started with Goodjuju: more than doubled. Tripled. And that's because I'm visible. They've made me visible. I start getting people who call me directly because now I show up high enough on those rankings that somebody says, "he's highly ranked, let's go call him." And I have the opportunity to make that sale where I didn't before.

I want to provide a high-quality product to the owners that I support. Goodjuju's given me the opportunity. They've made a significant difference in my life.
